Stone Mountain Highland Games

Celebrating our 40th Year!

Featured Events

If you have been with us in the past, we welcome you back to this our 40th anniversary celebration. We sincerely hope that you will find all those things that you have come to expect as well as some new favorites. For those who might be new to our games or to Scottish Games in general, we believe that you are in for some pleasant experiences. The biggest challenge ahead is to be able to see it all... a daunting task for even the most seasoned visitor. We suggest that you spend a few minutes perusing our features and then check Schedule of Events to make your plans.

Clans & Special Guests

Arguably "what it is all about... The Gathering of the Clan!" Stone Mountain Highland Games is proud to be able to help our clan folk from more than 100 Scottish families to connect with their extended family from throughout North America, Scotland and the rest of the world. Stone Mountain Games puts it own slant on things mixing in some of that famous "Southern Hospitality." Every visitor is treated as an old friend here. Scottish bloodline is "optional."

This year we celebrate our 40th year by inviting our Honored Guests from past games to join the 2012 Honored Guest. Our 2012 Honored Guest, Malcolm Sinclair, Earl of Caithness will be joined by more than six returning Distinguished Guests flowing all the way back to the year 1976.

Highland Athletics

Tradition has it that the "Games" were a special contest of strength and agility. Surely a centerpiece of any Highland Games are the "Highland Heavyweights". Stone Mountain Highland Games is proud to keep tradition alive as we feature two full days of athletic competition. An elite group of Professional Athletes will be joined on the competition field by some of the top amateurs in the country in our "by invitation" format.

Sunday events feature a special "Clan Challenge" format bringing even more of the traditions of the "Games" to our field. In this format, attending clans may appoint a "champion" to represent their interests as the athletes compete for bragging rights.

Music

The music of the Celtic nations is Iconic. Whether it is the "Skirl of the Pipes", the traditional strains of the fiddle, harp or flute, or even the more contemporary mix of "Celtic Fusion", music has always played an important part in any celebration. Stone Mountain Highland Games works hard each year to bring an ample sampling of some of the best of today's artists. With three different performing stages and a large parade field we offer music for every taste. Wether you like the traditions of the Pipes and Drums, a traditional Scottish or Irish ballad, or the more powerful music of today's youth you should be able to find plenty of musical entertainment all weekend long.

Piping, Drumming & Bands

It will be hard to miss the skirl of the pipes all weekend. Scotland's most famous musical instrument will be on full display as over 500 players in more 30 pipe bands from around the US will be competing for cash and prizes. The morning time os for the solo acts as pipers and drummers go head-to-head to see who is the day's best. This activity takes place in it own area of the festival grounds and allows spectators to get up close and personal with the players.

Afternoon is for the bands as the main parade field becomes the center of what has become one of the best competitive fields in the Southeast.

Still not enough, then you will not want to miss performances by some of the local pipes bands including The Atlanta Pipe Band, our 2012 Host band. There will even be an opportunity to experience "the Massed Bands", a special performance by ALL of the competing bands en mass.
